The Kimberley, untouched wilderness

A perfectly planned adventure has a way of leaving its mark, and Linda Bottrell’s 18-day journey was no exception. While she had visited Broome before, venturing beyond the town surpassed every expectation of a true bucket list adventure. The Kimberley revealed its magic in the vast, untouched wilderness, showing that the heart of this region is best experienced far from the towns where nature’s grandeur leaves a lasting impression.

Scroll down and experience the Kimberley through her eyes.

"The marine biologists onboard brought the Kimberley to life — every excursion felt like a discovery. It’s an investment, but the remote setting, expert crew, and immersive experiences make True North an outstanding value. I left both awed and inspired by their passion."

The 7-day Kimberley Snapshot cruise with True North, from Broome to Wyndham, was filled with daily excursions where she enjoyed tender rides along coastlines that are 1.6 billion years old, breathtaking helicopter trips, and explorations that were dictated by the tides. Linda marvelled at the stunning aerial views of Montgomery Reef and experienced the force of the legendary Horizontal Falls, a natural wonder with uncertain future accessibility.

"Touched down atop Eagle Falls for a sizzling BBQ and swam in pristine waterholes that feel like a movie set. Every day delivered new thrills, helicopter rides, tender cruises and unforgettable landscapes."

Post cruise, Linda spent two nights in Kununurra, exploring some of the Kimberley’s most iconic sights. Highlights included a tour of the Ord River and Lake Argyle, finished with a magical sunset cruise, and a scenic flight over the Bungle Bungles, discovered only in 1983, which are truly extraordinary from the air.

She also made a quick stop at Kimberley Fine Diamonds, where a stunning pink diamond caught her eye, priced at $243,000. Just when it seemed she had seen it all, Linda flew to Berkeley River Lodge, Australia’s most remote lodge. The experience was nothing short of extraordinary, with barramundi fishing, bush drives, sunset drinks on the beach, spa indulgence, and exploration of some of the most impressive Indigenous art she had ever encountered. Exceptional food, warm hospitality, and a full schedule of adventure made every day unforgettable. For Linda, the Kimberley is one of the world’s last great frontiers, remote, raw and breathtakingly beautiful. A journey that stays with you long after you return. If the chance ever comes, it is an experience not to be missed.
